Voluntary Assisted Dying: There has been passionate debate in Queensland Parliament today, as MPs state their cases for and against proposed voluntary assisted dying laws.
Health Minister Yvette D’Ath MP, whosupports the bill, spoke of her own mother’s death from young Alzheimer’s disease, saying her mother would have chosen VAD if it was available.
“I understand it’s a conscience vote. ‘Conscience vote’ doesn’t just mean ‘think about your own personal views.’ I have a responsibility to think about all Queenslanders and what they deserve, and the right for them to choose.”
Opposition Leader David Crisafulli MP, who opposes the bill, said he cannot give support to “flawed legislation”.
